Why You Should Buy a Used Phone Instead of a New One

Shopping for a new phone? Everyone knows how stressful the phone buying process can be. These days, there are so many brands, sizes, and features to choose from. Most phone buyers will immediately choose to purchase a brand new phone without considering the other option—a certified pre-owned phone. In this blog, we’ll discuss the top 3 reasons why you should buy a used phone that could be more beneficial than purchasing a new one.

1. Buy a used phone to save up to 20% off the retail cost but get the same phone

Yes—you read that number correctly! Pre-owned phones are much more inexpensive than brand new phones, and they also allow you to avoid signing any strict contracts or upgrade policies (which can be pricey). The even better news, though, is that you can get the same exact phone you would have purchased new. Many phone repair shops (like us!) offer the latest and greatest phone models at affordable prices.

Saving money is probably the most obvious reason to buy a used phone, but it is certainly not the only one. Keep reading to learn more!

2. Keep devices in circulation and out of the landfills

Purchasing a pre-owned phone also helps save energy, water, and other resources required to make brand new devices. Most unwanted technology just ends up in a landfill, which is incredibly toxic to the environment. At landfills, cell phones are either thrown into the soil or burnt, both of which pollute the environment. When they are burnt, the toxic metals are released into the air, and when they are just buried into the soil, those same metals will eventually contaminate local water and the local landfill.

The good news? When you buy a used phone, you’re giving that phone a second chance and taking one small step toward reducing the toxic impact of electronic waste.

3. Support the right to repair movement & local businesses.

Have you ever heard of ‘The Right to Repair’ movement? According to this New York Times article, the ‘Right to Repair’ movement seeks to “require companies to make their parts, tools and information available to consumers and repair shops in order to keep devices from ending up in the scrap heap,” arguing that such rules “contribute to wasted natural resources and energy use.”

Many large manufacturers restrict who can and can’t repair their products. Apple, for example, only gives specific repair tools and parts to Apple-authorized service providers. The ‘Right to Repair’ movement changes all of that, advocating for less restrictive laws that will allow local repair shops—and even product owners—to fix these products. This not only benefits and supports local business owners (who will be able to expand their services), but it also benefits the product owner. The majority of these large manufacturers charge much more to service your device, and they also attempt to persuade you to buy a new one instead of repairing the one you have.

But when you choose to buy a used phone from a local business, you become a participant in the ‘Right to Repair’ movement and an advocate for local businesses! It’s just one more reason to consider buying a pre-owned phone.

Laptop Water Damage – How to Fix It Fast!

Spill water, coffee, or another liquid on your laptop and have no idea what to do? Well, first things first—don’t panic! That being said, time is of the essence if your laptop has water damage, no matter what kind it is (Macbook, Lenovo, or desktop).

In this blog, we’ll discuss quick, step by step, at-home solutions to take when your computer has water damage. But don’t forget that Quik Fix AZ offers the best and most affordable water damage repair if you feel uncertain about tackling the repair on your own!

1. Turn the Power Off

The first step is turning your computer off immediately and removing any cables. Again, time is of the essence, so the quicker you turn off your computer, the higher chance you have of recovering it from water damage.

2. Remove the Battery (If Possible)

Not all laptops have removable batteries, but if yours does, take the battery out as soon as possible and dry it off. In doing so, you might be able to break the circuit that could lead to damage in your laptop.

3. Open Up Your Laptop (If Possible)

Some laptops are extremely difficult to get into (especially Apple computers like the Macbook Pro and Macbook Air as well as Microsoft laptops), so this step might not be possible for you. If, however, you are able to open up the chassis of your laptop, you will be able to see the extent of the water damage firsthand. Once you’ve determined which components are water-damaged, you can gently remove them and dry them with a cloth or towel.

4. Let It Dry

To dry your laptop and any of its components, use a clean cloth or towel. To soak up as much moisture as possible, make sure you dab the cloth instead of wiping it across the components. Wiping can leave behind quite a bit of moisture.

Once you have dried your laptop and its components, place everything aside for 48 hours minimum to continue to dry. Do not attempt to speed up the drying process by using a hair dryer or heater, as this could further damage your computer. After the 48 hours is up, you can attempt to restart your computer.

5. Take It to a Repair Shop

If you don’t feel comfortable opening up your computer on your own (or if your attempt is unsuccessful), find a local repair shop (like us!) as quickly as you can. Repair shop experts will be familiar with water damage, and they will have the specific tools necessary to get the job done (tools you probably don’t have at home).

Worst case scenario? Your laptop is too damaged to fix, and you have to purchase a new one. If that is the case, here’s a fantastic guide to some of the top laptops for 2021 by PC Mag.

New Year, New…Phone?

Just a few more days and it’s 2021 and with it comes the old adage ‘New year, New me’. So does this mean a phone upgrade is imminent? Well, newer isn’t always better. And with a barrage of new smartphones hitting the market, there are almost too many options to consider.

With flagship phone brands getting bigger and better, sleeker and sportier, more elegant and shinier, it’s no wonder people are queueing up to get the latest model of iPhone or Android. But just because these smartphones are hot off the press with all the latest and greatest tech features, it’s not always the smartest idea to go ahead and get one. Despite some of the downsides you might be experiencing with your current handset, which let’s say is just a few years old, your best option might actually be to seek expert technician advice rather than straining your budget by replacing your phone.

Why phone repair is better than phone replacement

First of all, if it’s just a want – not an urgent need – and you’re tempted to upgrade simply because there’s a new model of your favorite phone brand in store, then it’s best to resist the unnecessary urge. If you have a perfectly working device, the best option is to upgrade on ‘accessories’ to get the most of your phone’s features. Buy that perfect pair of headphones for a great sound experience, or try choosing a new phone case to give your gadget a new look – both options at a cheaper cost than a new phone. Visit a repair service center or head over to Quik Fix AZ to get your phone checked over. While you’re there, look into a variety of handy accessories to amp up your phone.

But how about if the battery is quickly draining and requires frequent charging? “Do I need a new phone,” you might be asking. Well, maybe a new battery is a better solution. Seek out trained repair technicians at Quik Fix AZ to give you the best battery troubleshooting and replacement options with guaranteed quality parts – more cost-efficient compared to buying a new device.

Now draining batteries are one thing, but what if you run out of storage? Again, simply purchasing more data might be a more cost-effective option here. Or you can just simply make room on your phone to store music, apps, and videos, by transferring some of the files you don’t often use to your computer or cloud drive. This will save you more bucks in the long run!

“But wait, my screen is cracked!” a very common problem most device users have. Get your phone back in shape by considering screen replacement offered by Quik Fix AZ . See how happy your wallet will be with this financially better alternative to a new phone! And what’s more, you can use the money you saved on phone essentials like a high-quality, durable case screen protector to keep your screen safe.

Phone upgrades can look really appealing, but given the current state of affairs, it’s better to save money by opting for ‘upgrading’ your current phone with excellent repair services. Resist the urge to splurge that unnecessary amount for a new device that will soon be replaced by a newer model in just a span of months.

Samsung Earbuds vs. Apple Airpods

If you own a smartphone, you’re probably aware of the notorious Android vs. Apple debate. The debate covers far more than just smartphones, however; in fact, for dedicated Android and Apple users, it extends all the way to the Samsung Galaxy Buds and the Apple AirPods. In this blog, we’ll discuss and compare the features of both Samsung Earbuds and Apple AirPods.

Which is better? We’ll let you decide!

Design

These earbuds have significantly different designs.

Samsung: The Samsung Galaxy Buds have an unconventional design, one that visually sets them apart from the Apple Airpods. The buds are bean-shaped, which makes them comfortable to wear and improves their sound quality as well. And each bud sports a mirror-like finish that is elegantly reflective no matter the color.

Apple: The Apple AirPod design is as timeless, classic, and minimal as other Apple products. The buds are lightweight but sturdy, and the silicone tips provide additional comfort during wear.

Sound Quality

Samsung: The sound quality of the Samsung Galaxy Buds is rumored to be exceptional. You can adjust the volume from the buds, and you can also adjust the sound quality from the app (Galaxy Wearables). Additionally, the app has an Ambient Sound setting that brings in more outside noise, and it also has a Voice Focus option that makes voices stand out more clearly.

Apple: Apple’s AirPods use two microphones—the external microphone analyzes outside sounds and tries to cancel them out with anti-noise, and the internal microphone analyzes any sounds that get through and tries to cancel them out as well. The sound quality is tight and direct but not overwhelming.

Battery Life

Samsung: According to Samsung, the Galaxy Buds allow up to 13 hours of play time, with 6 hours of charge in the earbuds, and an additional 7 hours with the charging case. Of course, this depends on how much you prioritize your usage, but overall the Samsung Earbuds’ battery life is strong.

Apple: According to Apple, you get more than 24 hours of listening time with multiple charges in your case or up to 18 hours of talk time. The AirPods can also get up to 5 hours of listening time or 3 hours of talk time on a single charge, giving them an excellent battery life.

Features

Samsung: The Samsung Galaxy Buds pair seamlessly with Galaxy phones, but their most exciting feature is the previously mentioned Galaxy Wearables app, which allows you to change the EQ settings and much more.

Apple: Although the Apple AirPods don’t have their own app, their connectivity is equally as easy because of their newly designed H1 chip. When you connect your AirPods to your iPhone, an option appears on the iPhone screen to pair the AirPods to the iPhone. Your phone screen will also show the battery status of the AirPods and the charging case.

It’s difficult to determine which is the better wireless earbud. No matter which earbud you decide to go with, both buds have unique features, strong sound quality, and long-lasting battery life. So you really can’t go wrong!

Trading in Your Phone: How to Do it Right the First Time

So you’re ready to upgrade to a new phone, but you’re hesitant to throw your old phone away or just put it up on the shelf. Your old phone is still in decent shape, and you believe it still has some value. You research iPhone repair or Samsung phone repair to see if your phone is worth fixing or updating, but you ultimately decide you want to buy a new phone. If this sounds like you, then you might want to consider trading in your old phone to a cell phone repair shop or trade-in company. Even if your phone has damage or is completely broken, there is still value in it! In this blog, we’ll cover everything you need to know about trading in your old phone for the first time in an easy, reliable, and stress-free way.

Before we begin, keep in mind that Quik Fix iPhone Repair offers trade-in services! So when you’re ready for an upgrade, bring your used phone to us. We will assess your phone and determine how much it is worth.

Below are a few things to keep in mind when trading in your phone for the first time:

Backup & Empty Your Phone

The last thing you want is someone getting possession of any personal information, passwords, or contact information on your phone when you trade it in. So before you start the trade in process, make sure you backup all of your important data (emails, photos, documents, etc.) so you can easily transition that data onto your new phone. You can backup your data on a computer, USB, or cloud service. Once you’ve secured all of your data elsewhere, you’ll want to wipe your phone clean and permanently delete all of the data on your phone before trading it in.

Do Your Research

Unfortunately, there are a few potential dangers when trading in your phone. These typically involve the company you’re trading with, so you will want to do plenty of research on phone trade-in companies or local cell phone repair & buy/sell/trade shops before sending your phone anywhere.

In an attempt to scam you, some companies will promise you a high value for your old phone, but once they assess the phone, they rate it at a much lower value. Other companies might have you send your phone to them, and then you never hear back from them on the value of your phone or even get your phone back. Reputable phone trade-in companies will do the following:

  • Give you reasonable instructions on how to prepare your phone for trade-in

  • Be willing to meet with you in-person to assess the value of your phone

  • Be transparent with their trade-in process as they guide you through it

If the company is missing any of these qualities, it’s a red flag. And if their offer sounds too good to be true, it likely is. Find a company you can trust when you make the decision to trade in your phone!

Trading in your phone for the first time should be a simple and easy process. At Quik Fix, we strive to make the trade-in method as stress-free and dependable as possible so you can get the best value for your old phone. Contact us today to learn more!

The iPhone Hall of Fame: Comparing the Latest iPhones

With Apple’s recent release of the sleek, technologically advanced iPhone 12, many Apple users are curious about how the latest model measures up to previous ones. Is the iPhone 12 worth the upgrade? To help you decide, we’ve put together a little “iPhone Hall of Fame” highlighting and comparing all of the latest and greatest iPhone models.

The iPhone 11

We all remember the iPhone 11’s release in September 2019, which emphasized its affordability, camera capabilities, and exciting colors. With a 6.1-inch screen display and classic curved edges, the iPhone 11 both looked and felt good. The iPhone 11 was also the first iPhone model to feature “Night Mode,” a camera feature that allows users to take bright, crisp photos in darker scenarios. The iPhone 11 is user-friendly, fun, and well-loved by Apple users.

The iPhone SE

Just a few months later on April 24, 2020, Apple released the second generation iPhone SE, which is considered one of the most affordable iPhones. With a 4.7-inch screen display, the iPhone SE is a bit more compact. Its smaller size does not affect its performance, however; in fact, it features an A13 Bionic, which is the fastest chip in a smartphone, keeping it at optimal functionality at all times! It also boasts the best single-camera system ever in an iPhone, featuring Portrait mode, all six Portrait Lighting effects, and Depth Control. What’s not to love?

The iPhone 12

Launched on October 23, the iPhone 12 has a family of four models: the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Mini, the iPhone 12 Pro, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Comparatively, the iPhone 12 is a huge technological success, boasting a new design, exceptional dual-lens cameras, 5G connectivity, and a solid battery life. As far as iPhones go, it is the future!

It has many exciting new features, including flat edges unlike the rounded edges of previous iPhone models. This makes the iPhone easier to grip and hold. Its unconventional color options (black, white, deep blue, light green, and red) are also a feature users will love. Like the iPhone 11, the iPhone 12’s screen display is a comfortable 6.1 inches. What makes it different from the iPhone 11, however, is its Super Retina XDR display, which makes colors intense and lifelike, transforming the viewing experience into something truly incomparable.

The iPhone 12 Mini

The iPhone 12 Mini is almost identical to the iPhone 12, holding all of the same features in a smaller, sleeker package. The iPhone 12 features a 6.1 inch display, while the Mini features a 5.4 inch display, making it the smallest iPhone since the iPhone SE. Its compact size is perfect for those who have been looking for a phone they can use one-handed.

The iPhone 12 Pro

Photographer lovers, this one is for you! The iPhone 12 Pro offers advanced triple-camera setups and other photography features such as a telephoto lens and “Night Mode.” Although the Night Mode feature is on the iPhone 11, Night Mode on the iPhone 12 Pro is a part of the ultra-wide camera, standard wide camera, and the front camera. This allows you to take low-light photos that are crisper without having to use the flash.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max

The iPhone 12 Pro Max offers almost all of the same features as the iPhone 12 Pro, except it boasts a larger and better display, battery, and camera system.

One thing is for certain—Apple has a history of offering iPhone models with exceptional quality and product design. No matter what kind of iPhone you own, if you are ever in need of iPhone repair, just contact us! Our Apple iPhone repair experts can fix it all—iPhone screen repair, iPhone charging port repair, iPhone water damage repair, and more.
